Check Out the Selectivity Switch

So I turn the radio over and look in the area of the selectivity switch. This is the first thing I see. This is about an inch from the cap I replaced in the screen voltage section above. Either it happened while I was testing or, more likely, I didn't see because of the angle I was working from while replacing the cap. Whatever. The letters K and L are from the page dealing with the selectivity switch on my radio.


The late radio docs give R18 as 2,700 ohm, 1/2 watt. The early docs give 3,000 ohms, 1/3 watt. I'm not sure but it looks like 1 watt to me. The early docs give C28 as 0.02 200 volt tubular. Not mica. The late docs give the same w/different wording.

I changed out C28 (0.022 600 volt) and R18 (two 5,600 ohm 1 watt in parallel):

I came very close to removing T2 and rewiring it.

I hooked everything up while the radio is still upside down on my roll-around bench and lo and behold, one station! A religious station (WLCC) at 760 kilocycles located some 16 miles from me. Comes in pretty clear too. Woo.

Noted the 760 kilocycle station shows up at 770 kilocycles on the dial. My signal generator is off by a similar amount.

I checked the selectivity knob position. It was off by 120 degrees. See how to position the shaft and knob. 'Broad IF' works best, 'broad crystal' sort of works, nothing else does.
