Repair T6

T6 from radio #4 was damaged severely while trying to remove the innards from the can.

The nuts were rusted and without realizing it, I spun the paper core in the frame and broke every wire!

The damaged area:

I have two examples of T6. One has PVC insulation (from radio #5) which has turned to mostly dust. The other (radio #4) has severely faded double cotton covered wire. Both have the same four colors of wire once you figure out how to determine the cotton wire colors.

The #4 transformer has a center-tapped secondary (I think) while #5 does not. There is a terminal for the center-tap but it was not connected to anything in the radio. The #5 transformer has the terminal but nothing has ever been soldered to it.

The problem here is that the #4 transformer is wired up backwards from the #5. The color pairs for the windings are maintained but they're switched.

The wires in question remind me of human hairs. They're tiny. I read that the best way to remove the enamel was to stick the end of the wire in a hot glob of solder on a soldering iron. It seems to work. Also tins the wire so two for one.

I positioned the coil so the short center-tap wires could be soldered to the terminal and thoroughly glued everything in place. Hoping to make #5 a little more robust, I glued that one too.

Testing with an ohm meter yielded the same results as the others.
